Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Librai (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Librai mobile application for iOS and Android and the website at librai.app (collectively, the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

2. Local-First Architecture

Librai is designed around on-device storage. The following data resides exclusively on your device and is never transmitted to our servers during normal use:

• Imported books, documents, and ebook files (PDF, EPUB, MOBI, FB2, CBZ, and other supported formats).
• Reading progress, bookmarks, and page positions.
• Highlights and annotations.
• Reading statistics, streaks, and goals.
• Learning paths (ordered reading lists you generate or curate).
• Reader preferences including themes, fonts, bionic-reading settings, and speed-reader configuration.
• AI conversation history within the in-panel assistant.

Because this data never leaves your device, we cannot access, recover, or restore it. If you delete the app or your device data, this information is permanently lost.

3. Information We Collect

3.1 Device Identifier

When you first open Librai, a unique device identifier (UUID) is generated on your device and sent to our server to create your account. We do not collect your device’s hardware identifiers (IMEI, serial number, or advertising ID). This UUID is used solely to authenticate you and manage your subscription status.

3.2 Subscription & Payment Data

All purchases are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never receive or store your credit card number, bank account, or other payment instrument details. Through our subscription management partner we receive:

• Subscription plan type (Free or Pro), status, and expiration date.
• Transaction identifiers from the app store.
• Product identifier of the purchased plan.

3.3 Usage Counters

To enforce fair-use limits on the Free tier, we maintain daily aggregate counters for AI messages, web searches, book scans, and URL extractions. These are numeric totals only and contain no content, queries, or results.

3.4 Platform Information

We may record the platform you use (iOS or Android) for diagnostic and support purposes.

4. AI Features

When you use the in-panel AI assistant or book-scoped question features, the specific text you submit is transmitted through our server to a third-party AI model provider. The following applies:

• Only the content you explicitly send in a given prompt is transmitted. We do not send your full library, reading history, or highlights.
• AI responses are streamed back to your device in real time. Our server acts as a proxy and does not log or retain your prompts or the AI responses.
• If you use the vision/scan feature (e.g., scanning a book cover), the image data is transmitted to the model provider for processing and is not stored on our server.

Do not submit sensitive personal information (financial details, government identifiers, medical records, or passwords) into AI prompts.

5. Search & Content Features

When you search for books or use the learning-path generator, your queries are proxied through our server to third-party search and metadata services. Extracted webpage content is fetched, truncated, and returned to your device. Our server does not log or store search queries, results, or extracted content beyond the duration of the request.

6. Data We Do Not Collect

We do not collect:

• Location data or GPS coordinates.
• Contacts, photos, or microphone input.
• Browsing history outside of the app.
• Advertising identifiers (IDFA/GAID). Librai contains no advertising SDK.
• Analytics or crash-reporting telemetry beyond the usage counters described above.

7. Data Security

Communication between the app and our server is encrypted in transit. Access to protected endpoints requires a valid authentication token. While we take reasonable measures to protect your information, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure.

8. Data Retention & Deletion

Server-side data (your account record, subscription status, and usage counters) is retained for as long as your account exists. You may request deletion of all server-side data by contacting us. We will process verified deletion requests within 30 days.

On-device data is under your control. You can delete all local data from within the app’s Settings screen (“Delete All Data”) or by uninstalling the application.

9. Third-Party Services

To provide the Service we share limited data with third-party providers in the following categories:

• App stores — payment processing, distribution, and in-app purchase verification.
• Subscription management — receipt validation and entitlement tracking.
• AI model providers — processing prompts you submit to the in-panel assistant.
• Search & content services — book metadata lookup and webpage extraction for learning paths.

Each provider is subject to its own privacy policy. Specific provider names are available on request.

10. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
